Hand made and hand painted model of Big Ben - in miniature! Completed in 1854, the bells of the Great Clock of Westminster rang across London for the first time on 31st May 1859 and Parliament had a special sitting to decide on a suitable name for the great hour bell. The most accepted version of how it got its name, was that it was named after Sir Benjamin Hall - who spoke at length about it at this special sitting of parliament and we have known it as Big Ben ever since.
